True Marlin (Deposit)

Marlin are among the largest fish in the sea and the dream of every ambitious angler. We’ve secured a 64-foot fishing yacht and seasoned captain to navigate the Sea of Cortez for four days in pursuit of these giants of the deep. Chef-driven meals, starry skies, icy beers, merriment, all included after arrival. Price: $2,650.

Giants of The Deep (November 14th to 18th)

In the early dawn, a team of True members will venture out into the one of the greatest fishing regions on the planet—and in the shadow of Hemingway and Steinbeck—in search of a most storied fish. Weighing in at records of 1500 pounds, the marlin are known for their fierce fighting style. Battles can rage on for hours, and often feature magnificent aerial displays of the full sail.

Itinerary

Welcome Reception /Wednesday, November 14th

Our quest begins with a toast on the deck of the S’wells, our 64-foot Mikelson replete with staterooms, galley and split-level salon. We’ll have the barbecue going and a few bottles uncorked for cocktail hour to greet our shipmates.

We’re in good hands with Richard Greco, our True host and member extraordinaire (he's also a fabulous lobster cook, tequila aficionado and former treasure hunter.) Sitting down for a dinner and gauging the wind, we’ll discuss the best techniques to catch Marlin and head out into the Sea of Cortez around dawn.

As we roll out from out our berths in the early morning light, cruising around the fishing grounds several hours out into Pacific, we’ll look get our lines in the water with fresh bait and start our fishing day. Catching these giants is an art form, and our veteran captain will guide us. What will follow is an extraordinary couple of the days on the water: a mix between the most challenging fishing, incredible meals, tall tales, and our first official True hunt for the big one we won't let get away.

Our Dates

Arrive: Our experience starts at dusk on the docks at Cabo San Lucas on Nov. 14th, and we'll depart early on the morning of the 15th. We'll be on the water for three days, returning to dock on Sunday afternoon, November 18th.

Our Vessel

The S'wells is an incredible specimen designed to catch big fish and comfort. It's  a 1999/2016 Mikelson 64 Long-Range Luxury Sportfisher, with the following specs: Twin 1300hp Cats, three staterooms and crew quarters, a full-beam mid-ship master, split level salon and full galley. Overall, she is 71 feet long, with a 19’11” beam, new Simrad electronics, a pair of new Stidd helm seats, an 1800 gallon per-day water maker and 600-pound per day ice maker. It has a commercial freezer (which will keep our catch fresh) a 2,400 gallon fuel tank (in case we want to venture to South America) dual 35’ outriggers, an enclosed bridge with a hard top and a fly bridge, which is massive.
